What's covered?
We've simplified travel insurance with our bundled Explorer Plan that you can build upon with extra coverage. This way, you only pay for the coverage you need on the days you actually need it.
It’s important to find a policy with pregnancy cover that suits the needs of you and your unborn child. Freely offers some expectant birthing parents cover for part of their pregnancy provided certain conditions are met.
Childbirth is not covered. Costs relating to the health or care of a newborn child are not covered, irrespective of the stage of pregnancy when the child is born. There’s a lot of detail to unpack in the above, so refer to and read the Combined FSG/PDS for more information. To learn about the Target Market for this product, you can read our TMD.
If you have a healthy pregnancy, the best time to travel tends to be during your second trimester – which is when the risk of complications is lowest. Maybe you’re hitting the road to visit relatives or going on a babymoon before you give birth. Whatever your reason for travelling, growing a tiny human adds another layer of concern to your trip – so read on to see if Freely can meet your specific needs.
Freely provides coverage for unexpected serious pregnancy complications up until 23 weeks and 6 days.
Our included pregnancy cover only applies to single pregnancies. If you’re having twins or triplets or anything more, you’ll need to declare this in an online health assessment when getting a quote and an additional premium may apply.
If your pregnancy was medically assisted by fertility treatments (such as hormone treatments or IVF), or if you’ve experienced a complication in this or a previous pregnancy, you’ll need to declare this in an online health assessment when getting a quote. An additional premium may apply.

Freely offers limited cover for travellers who are pregnant. If you’re pregnant (with a single pregnancy) while travelling overseas and experience an unexpected serious complication, we may provide cover up until 23 weeks and 6 days. We don’t, however, cover childbirth or any costs related to childcare after childbirth.

If you’re travelling in the first 23 weeks of your pregnancy and you meet the conditions in our PDS, we can provide you with overseas emergency medical expenses cover for serious and unexpected pregnancy complications and emergency assistance without the need to declare your pregnancy to us.
If the pregnant traveller has experienced complications with the current or a previous pregnancy; if the pregnancy was assisted (i.e. through IVF); or if it’s a multiple pregnancy (i.e. twins or triplets), this should be declared in our online health assessment to determine eligibility for cover.
For more detail, please contact our team or refer to the PDS.
Cover is provided for unexpected serious pregnancy complications that occur up until your 24th week of pregnancy, i.e. up to 23 weeks and 6 days (and if certain other conditions outlined in the PDS are met).
However, expectant birthing parents should consider if our products are right for them when travelling after 20 weeks’ gestation.
Please also note that costs relating to the health or care of a newborn child are not covered, irrespective of the stage of pregnancy when the child is born.
For more detail, please contact our team or refer to the PDS.
We don’t automatically cover multiple pregnancies (i.e. twins or triplets), but we may if the multiple pregnancy is declared as an existing medical condition in an online health assessment when getting a quote. This will determine the pregnant traveller’s eligibility for cover.
