What's covered?
We've simplified travel insurance with our bundled Explorer Plan that you can build upon with extra coverage. This way, you only pay for the coverage you need on the days you actually need it.
Getting sick or injured when you're travelling is a real pain, but having travel insurance may help take away some of the sting. Medical and dental coverage comes with our Overseas Explorer Plan.
While at home in Australia we have a good public healthcare system, other countries are not so fortunate. Not only can top medical assistance be difficult to access in certain parts of the world, but it can also be wildly expensive. For these reasons, it’s a great idea to consider taking out travel insurance with good medical cover, which comes as standard with our Overseas Explorer Plan.
We can provide cover for several pre-existing mental health conditions, including depression and anxiety (provided you meet our criteria and haven't been hospitalised, required treatment or changed medication in the last 12 months).
Only applies to Overseas Explorer Plan
If you get sick or injure yourself overseas, you may be able to claim unlimited medical and dental expenses incurred overseas. Cover will not exceed 12 months from onset of illness or condition.
Only applies to Overseas Explorer Plan.
Freely automatically provides cover for a range of existing medical conditions (subject to the criteria in the PDS). For conditions that don’t meet the criteria for auto cover or conditions that are not automatically covered, you can complete a health assessment at the same time you purchase your policy. If approved, an additional premium may apply.
Cover for medical and emergency dental expenses is only available in our Overseas Explorer Plan.
We've made buying travel insurance easier by bundling medical, trip and belongings cover in our single Explorer Plan. Get a quote and buy your policy in minutes.
If you need additional coverage for your trip or favourite gadgets, you can build upon the Explorer Plan by adding any of our Trip Extras.
Last-minute ski trip? Need a rental vehicle or motorcycle for the day? Embrace spontaneity and toggle on additional activity coverage for the days you need it.

We provide coverage for overseas medical expenses, including hospital expenses for approvable claims. If things go really wrong, we can help with emergency repatriation or evacuation to bring you home.
Only applies to Overseas Explorer Plan
If you need to amend, delay or cancel your trip, we can help smooth out bumps in your travel plans. You can even increase your cancellation coverage in increments of $1,000 by paying additional premiums.
Build on your Explorer Plan by adding Trip Extras to get greater protection for your personal belongings, and enhanced delay and cancellation coverage. You can also toggle on Daily Boosts to get coverage for certain activities, from motorbike riding to adventure sports – and toggle them off when your plans change!
Accidents happen, but accessing medical support overseas as a traveller can be difficult and expensive. From a dog bite in Sri Lanka to a reef cut in Fiji, doctor and hospital fees can be very high, especially if you don’t have medical coverage.
This is where travel insurance can come in handy. In fact, according to Australian government website Smartraveller, travel insurance is “as important as a passport” if you’re heading overseas.
For travellers who have purchased our Overseas Explorer Plan and who become sick or injured while on their trip, we may provide cover for unexpected medical and hospital expenses (cover will not exceed 12 months from onset of illness or condition).
Travelling with Freely also gives you 24-hour access to our team of medical and emergency specialists, as well as live chat with the Freely support team from 7am–7pm AEST/AEDT every day.
Terms and conditions apply. For more detail, please read the PDS.
Yes, we do. Some conditions are automatically covered (subject to the criteria outlined in the PDS) by our Overseas Explorer Plan, while others need to be approved and may carry an additional premium. There are also existing medical conditions that we may not cover at all.
To declare your existing medical conditions for a quote, follow the steps on our Existing Medical Conditions page.

If you become sick or injured while on your trip and need emergency repatriation, we may provide cover for that.

If you’re trekking at 4,000-6,000m above sea level for more than two days, you would need to add our Adventure Activities Boost to your policy at an additional cost in order to have any claims eligible for consideration (trekking using specialist equipment isn’t covered by our policies).

For abseiling, our Overseas Explorer Plan automatically includes cover for abseiling; you do not need to add our Adventure Activities Boost to your base policy in order to have any claims eligible for consideration.
