What is our Snow Sports Boost?

Snow sports – including skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling – are not automatically covered by our Explorer Plan. But we've got a Boost for that!

Our Snow Sports Boost covers a range of snow sports and activities once you've added it to your base policy at an additional cost, including downhill skiing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding – as well as snowmobiling.

If you’re planning on going off-piste, we’ll still offer cover, but only if you're not going against any warnings or local advice.

(Also be aware that our Snow Sports Boost is not for those who are participating in a professional capacity or racing.)

Why consider our Snow Sports Boost for your next snow trip?

For anyone engaging in snow sports while overseas, there's a highly risk of injury than if you weren't (rocket science).

If you get injured while skiing, for instance, and you don't have the appropriate travel insurance, you could be up for some costly medical bills – especially if you're in a hard-to-access location. Medical bills tend to be higher for non-citizen visitors to a foreign country and, as you probably know, travellers cannot access Medicare while overseas.

What's more, let's say this injury means you have to book new accommodation so you can recover from your injury (under advice from a medical professional). Many times, without travel insurance, travellers are forced to forfeit those costs.

If we're talking worst case scenarios, an injury that's serious enough to require medical evacuation would typically leave a traveller with frighteningly large medical bills.

When travelling with adequate snow sports travel insurance – such as what Freely offers with our Snow Sports Boost – you may be reimbursed for $Unlimited~ overseas medical and emergency dental, emergency repatriation and emergency evacuation.

Plus, if you're faced with additional expenses as a result, our Snow Sports Boost may enable you to be reimbursed for those costs.

~Medical and dental cover will not exceed 12 months from onset of the illness or injury.

Do I have to purchase the Snow Sports Boost for my whole trip?

No, you can purchase our pay-per-day Snow Sports Boost just for the days you're on the snow – that means you only pay for the cover on the days you need it.

Let's say you're going on a ski trip in Hakuba, Japan (see the Freely guide to this awesome snow region) – but the snow conditions are unpredictable: you don't know which days are going to have the best powder worth skiing.

Once you arrive in Hakuba, you see the forecast is great for the next three days, followed by a day of average conditions.

Using the Freely app, you can simply add our Snow Sports Boost to your policy for those three days of good snow: once you've paid for Boost, you're covered (as long as you're also meeting the requirements set out in the PDS).

And rinse and repeat: you can add our Snow Sports Boost in real time, offering you day-by-day flexibility for your snow cover.
