What activities does Freely travel insurance cover as standard?

Freely covers over 75 activities as standard across all three plans, including: surfing, snorkelling, bungee jumping, jet skiing, abseiling, golf, kayaking and rafting (white water grades 1–3), hot air ballooning (as a passenger), horse riding, glacier hiking on organised tours, scuba diving to 30 metres, and a broad list of amateur sports. Some higher-risk activities require the Adventure Activities Trip Extra.

What activities require the Adventure Activities Trip Extra with Freely?

Accepted Answer

Some higher-risk activities require the Adventure Activities Trip Extra to be added. These include: scuba diving between 30 and 50 metres; skydiving and parachuting; rock climbing above 2,000 metres; trekking above 3,000 metres (including Everest Base Camp on fully organised tours); via ferrata; iceclimbing; canoeing and kayaking in white water grades 4–5;polo; horse jumping; and triathlon. An extra premium applies.

What is a Trip Extra and do I need one?

Trip Extras are add-ons that vary the policy to provide  cover for doing specific activities. For example, Adventure Activities, Motorcycle or Moped riding, Cruise and more. Some Trip Extras are available on a pay-per-day basis, whilst others are available on a pay-per-trip basis.

How do I add Trip Extras to my policy?

You can add a Trip Extra/s before your trip when you're getting a quote or even during your trip inside the Freely app:

What is NOT covered by Freely travel insurance?

Accepted Answer

Among other things, we don’t cover claims related to government travel bans, “Do not travel” warnings, activitiesexcluded under the policy, or incidents that occur while you’re drunk or intoxicated. Refer to the PDS for full details, limits and exclusions.

Question 7

Does Freely travel insurance cover natural disasters?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If a natural disaster disrupts your travel while you are already on your trip, Freely can cover reasonable additional accommodation and transport costs. If your Australian home is totally destroyed while you are away, early return costs are also covered. What happens if my flight is delayed?

Accepted Answer

If your pre-booked, prepaid transport is delayed during the journey for at least 6 hours due to an unforeseeable circumstance outside your control (including a cyber incident), travel delay expenses can reimburse reasonable additional accommodation costs (room rate only) and any unused prepaid accommodation. Reimbursement is up to $300 for the initial 6-hour delay, plus a further $300 for each full 24-hour period the delay continues, up to the $2,000travel delay expenses limit. What overseas emergencies can travel insurance help with - medical, evacuation, or repatriation?

Accepted Answer

All three. A Freely overseas plan is generally designed to help with overseas medical and dental, emergency evacuation and repatriation home when that's the right medical call and approved by us. Evacuation and repatriation need to be coordinated through Freely's emergency assistance network. Save Freely's 24/7 emergency assistance line in your phone before you fly, calling first means the response and costs can be approved up front. Full terms and conditions are set out in the PDS.

Does travel insurance cover overseas medical expenses?

Medical costs overseas can add up quickly, and not every country has a public system like Australia's. Freely's travel insurance is designed to help cover overseas medical and dental expenses, emergency evacuation and repatriation, with 24/7 access to our medical and emergency specialists through the app. Cover limits and sub-limits vary across our three overseas plans (Essentials, Explorer and Explorer Pro), so check the PDS and compare plans for the specifics before you buy.

Do you cover existing medical conditions?

Yes. Freely automatically includes some pre-existing medical conditions, subject to criteria in the PDS. Other conditions require assessment and may carry an additional premium. You'll be asked about medical conditions during the quote process - refer to the PDS for the full list.
