Need extra cover for your adventure trip?

Trip Extras let you build on your base policy, before you go or while you're away. Whether you want increased limits for your valuable items, extra cancellation cover, or pay-per-day cover for activities like skiing, motorcycle riding or cruising - just add what you need.

What to consider when looking for adventure travel insurance

When looking for a travel insurance provider for adventure activities overseas, it’s a good idea to check which activities are covered automatically by the base policy and which activities require travellers to purchase extra cover.

Typically, higher-risk activities – such as skydiving, outdoor rock climbing and multi-day trekking at altitude – will carry a premium.

With Freely, you can get cover for a range of higher-risk activities by adding our Adventure Activities Trip Extra to your base policy at an additional cost, including sky diving, parachuting, trekking (that doesn’t require specialist equipment) at heights of 3,000–6,000 metres above sea level and outdoor rock climbing (with ropes, guided and/or bolted routes).

You can add our Adventure Activities Trip Extra to your policy in real time, meaning as soon as you pay, you’re covered for the days you selected.

If you’re planning to go skiing or snowboarding, add our Snow Sports Trip Extra to your base policy in order to be covered. If you’re keen to hire a motorcycle or moped while away, add our Motorcycle & Moped Riding Trip Extra to your policy to be covered.

For more detail, be sure to read the PDS.

Top tips for overseas adventure

Here are some helpful tips to consider ...

1

Research local operators and safety standards

Always book your activities with a reputable activity provider with a strong safety track record. Look for certifications, reviews and adherence to international safety standards. Don’t hesitate to ask questions about the equipment, guides and safety measures before committing.

2

Know your limits and choose activities wisely

Before diving into any adventure, assess your fitness level and experience. Engage in activities that align with your skills and capabilities to ensure you’re not taking on more than you can handle.

3

If you’re feeling unwell, reconsider doing the adventure activity

If you’re feeling unwell, consider skipping or postponing an adventure activity. Pushing yourself while sick can increase the risk of injury or accidents. Prioritise your health and give yourself time to recover so you can enjoy your holiday to the fullest when you’re feeling better.
