What's covered?
We've simplified travel insurance with our bundled Explorer Plan that you can build upon with extra coverage. This way, you only pay for the coverage you need on the days you actually need it.
Exploring the world as a family – or simply unwinding together somewhere special – is a beautiful way to make memories. With Freely, accompanied children and grandchildren under the age of 21 are covered for free, making us a great travel insurance option for adventuring families.
To receive coverage when travelling overseas as a family, please keep in mind that all family members must leave and return to Australia together.
Cancellation policy benefits are shared amongst all travellers on the same policy. Cancellation limit applies per policy.
Whether you're visiting relatives overseas, vacationing somewhere tropical or immersing the kids in another culture, family holidays tend to be a rather large logistical affair! With this in mind, here are some benefits of Freely that may make your next trip that little bit less stressful.
Accompanied children and grandchildren under the age of 21 are covered under the policy of their travelling guardian (as long as the children are travelling with you for the entire duration of the journey, are included in the policy, are not in full-time employment and are financially dependent on the guardian).
If necessary, we'll help with emergency evacuation or repatriation to bring you home.
Only applies to Overseas Explorer Plan.
If you encounter unexpected accommodation and/or transport costs during your travels because of a covered event, we may provide cover for the additional expenses you incur.
Accompanied children means your children or grandchildren who are identified on the Certificate of Insurance and travelling with you on the journey, provided they are not in full-time employment, they are financially dependent on you and they are under the age of 21 years. Cancellation policy benefits shared among all travellers on the one policy. There’s a lot of detail to unpack in the above, so refer to and read the Combined FSG/PDS for more information. Though travelling overseas is a fabulous experience, it also carries with it many risks, from theft to medical emergencies. It’s one thing taking a gamble to not buy travel insurance when it’s just you, but it’s an entirely different thing when you've got children or grandchildren to care for. This is especially true when you think about how quickly costs can mount when you're a family. With Freely, dependent children and grandchildren under the age of 21 travel free on their guardian's policy.
When working out whether to get domestic travel insurance for your family trip, the best thing to do is weigh up the options, i.e. is the price of travel insurance worth the possible cost of cancellations and amendments for all family members? COVID-19 is sadly still a thing, and though we might not have to isolate anymore, people are still getting sick. Many of Freely’s claims are still related to COVID-19, and coverage for it while you’re travelling domestically certainly isn’t obsolete if you’re worried about interruptions to your trip due to your health or that of your children or grandchildren.
As well as COVID-19, Freely's domestic coverage includes trip cancellations (for qualifying reasons), early trip terminations (for qualifying reasons), expenses resulting from travel delays, lost or stolen luggage, luggage delays and rental car excess, some of which you pay for a Boost to access.
While we aim to provide comprehensive coverage, it's important to be aware of some exceptions in your travel insurance. Please read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Target Market Determination (TMD) that applies to your chosen type of policy. And if you have questions, get in touch with us.

• Coverage may not apply if you exceed the specified limits for alcohol. Our policies do not provide any cover for claims which in any way relate to the ingestion of any non-prescription drug or substance.
