What's covered?
We've simplified travel insurance with our bundled Explorer Plan that you can build upon with extra coverage. This way, you only pay for the coverage you need on the days you actually need it.

To receive coverage when travelling overseas as a family, please keep in mind that all family members must leave and return to Australia together.
Cancellation policy benefits are shared amongst all travellers on the same policy. Cancellation limit applies per policy.
Whether you're visiting relatives overseas, vacationing somewhere tropical or immersing the kids in another culture, family holidays tend to be a rather large logistical affair! With this in mind, here are some benefits of Freely that may make your next trip that little bit less stressful.
Accompanied children and grandchildren under the age of 21 are covered under the policy of their travelling guardian (as long as the children are travelling with you for the entire duration of the journey, are included in the policy, are not in full-time employment and are financially dependent on the guardian).
If necessary, we'll help with emergency evacuation or repatriation to bring you home.
Only applies to Overseas Explorer Plan.
If you encounter unexpected accommodation and/or transport costs during your travels because of a covered event, we may provide cover for the additional expenses you incur.
Accompanied children means your children or grandchildren who are identified on the Certificate of Insurance and travelling with you on the journey, provided they are not in full-time employment, they are financially dependent on you and they are under the age of 21 years. Cancellation policy benefits shared among all travellers on the one policy. There’s a lot of detail to unpack in the above, so refer to and read the Combined FSG/PDS for more information. When you’re travelling with your family, you’re responsible for the health and wellbeing of more than just yourself – not to mention, travelling with a lot more variables!
This is why it’s a good idea to consider travel insurance, which the Australian Government Smartraveller website considers “as important as a passport” if you’re heading overseas.
Travel insurance can help when a family member gets sicks or injured overseas, if your flight is delayed or if someone loses their passport (sigh, we’ve been there). In particular, families with young children may find that having travel insurance with medical and emergency cover as a benefit offers some assurance in case something goes wrong.
Freely’s Overseas Explorer Plan includes as a benefit medical and emergency dental (cover will not exceed 12 months from the onset of the illness or condition), overseas repatriation and evacuation, as well as safety alerts and 24-hour access to medical and emergency assistance via the Freely app.
Families travelling with children might also enjoy Freely’s 24-hour telehealth access with e-script capability in over 70 countries and across dozens of language.
Terms and conditions apply. For more detail, be sure to read the PDS.
A policy for family travel insurance can cover things like overseas medical and emergency dental, emergency evacuation, trip cancellation and amendment, COVID-19 and lost, stolen or damaged luggage – such as what Freely’s Overseas Explorer Plan includes.
When looking for travel insurance, it’s a good idea to understand the level of cover you want for your family and whether you want to add extra cover for things like trip cancellations and valuable belongings.
With Freely, families travelling on the same policy can enjoy a discount, plus accompanied children and grandchildren under the age of 21 are covered at no extra cost under the policy of their travelling guardian (terms and conditions apply).
We always recommend that travellers read the PDS to understand exactly what a family travel insurance policy does and doesn’t include as a benefit, and the terms, conditions and limits that apply.
You can purchase a Freely travel insurance policy for you and your family at the last minute – even from the airport! You can get a quote and buy your policy in just minutes on our website or with the Freely app.
That said, we suggest buying travel insurance ahead of your trip to make use of benefits such as pre-trip cancellation – plus, purchasing your family travel insurance in advance means one less thing to worry about at the airport!
You can also buy Freely travel insurance while you’re already on your trip – but this means you’ll be subject to a three-day no-cover period.
For more detail, be sure to read the PDS.
Yes, only accompanied children and grandchildren under the age of 21 can be covered under the Freely policy of their travelling parent or guardian at no extra cost.

We understand that some travellers, including kids, have existing medical conditions.
Freely’s Overseas Explorer Plan provides cover for a range of conditions automatically subject to the criteria in the PDS, while others need to be declared and approved – and may carry an additional premium. Some conditions we aren’t able to cover at all.
To declare your child’s existing medical conditions, you will need to complete a short online health assessment when getting a quote from our website or the Freely app.
For more detail, please read the PDS or contact our customer support team.

Buying family travel insurance for a domestic trip is a personal decision.
While travelling in Australia means we’re often more familiar with the hospital system, language and local cultures, domestic trips can often carry the same risks, especially things like trip delay and damaged luggage.
Freely’s Domestic Explorer Plan offers as a benefit cover for trip cancellation and amendment, travel delay expenses, and lost and stolen luggage, which may come in handy for families heading on a holiday or road trip in Australia.
