We've simplified travel insurance with our bundled Explorer Plan that you can build upon with extra coverage. This way, you only pay for the coverage you need on the days you actually need it.
Although our Overseas Explorer Plan automatically covers you for river cruising and cruises that don't leave Australian Coastal Waters, if you're jumping on a multi-night sea cruise while overseas, you'll need to add our Cruise Cover Boost in order to be covered.
To get cover on your multi-night ocean or seagoing cruise, it is mandatory to add our Cruise Cover Boost for all days you’re onboard, from the day you board to the day you disembark.
Whether you're puttering around the Mediterranean or voyaging across the Canadian Arctic, cruises are a fabulous way to travel. To get coverage for sea cruises outside of Australia that are longer than two nights (multi-night), you’ll need to add our Cruise Cover Boost to your Explorer Plan (at an additional cost), from the day you board until the day you disembark.
If you fall ill with COVID-19 before or on your trip, you may be able to claim the cost of additional accommodation and expenses because of it. Sub-limits and a special excess apply.
With our Cruise Cover Boost, we may reimburse you for onboard medical or ship-to-shore medical expenses.

While river cruising is automatically included in Freely’s Explorer Plan (both domestic and international), travellers hopping on a sea or ocean-going cruise for more than two nights (multi-night) in international waters must add our Cruise Cover Boost to the base policy at an additional cost, from the day you board to the day you disembark.
As a cruise passenger, there are many things you can do to make sure you stay in tip-top health for the duration of your journey. In the months leading up to leaving the shore, build up your immune system with diet, exercise and rest. If you have a chronic illness, check in with your doctor six-to-eight weeks before you set sail to check you are fit enough to travel, find out what vaccinations you may need and work out how you’re going to manage your medication.
Pack a little medical kit for minor ailments (think bandaids, burn cream, antiseptic ointment, antifungal cream and the like), and ask your doctor if there are any extra medications – such as antibiotics – that you might need to self-treat certain conditions. If you become unwell on the ship, seek medical advice immediately.
Yes, river cruising is automatically covered in our Explorer Plan.
This means that if you are jumping on a river cruise on your next trip, even if it’s multi-night, there’s no need to add our Cruise Cover Boost to your base policy.
Yes, when you add Freely’s Cruise Cover Boost to your Explorer Plan (at an additional cost, for all the days you’re onboard), you can enjoy cover for things like pre-cruise cancellations, pre-cruise trip amendments and onboard medical expenses that arise if you and/or your travel companion contracts COVID-19 (sub-limits and a special excess apply).
Please note there is no cover for cruise cabin confinement costs related to COVID-19, whether or not you are diagnosed with COVID-19.

Yes, as long as you add our Cruise Cover Boost to your base policy an additional cost, from the day you board to the day you disembark.
Our Cruise Cover Boost provides travellers in international waters with medical and emergency dental coverage for up to 12 months from the onset of illness or injury. This includes onboard medical and dental, ship-to-shore medical and seasickness cover.
Major cruise ships may have medical facilities on board, so if you need attention, you’ll be able to access help – and the staff will use their discretion to decide when you need to be transferred to a health facility at port.
If you do end up receiving treatment from medical staff on board your cruise, you might have to pay for it up front – but if you have Freely’s Cruise Cover Boost and have satisfied all the criteria laid out in the PDS, you may be able to make a claim to seek reimbursement afterwards.

You can easily file a claim within the app. Navigate to your trip by tapping "My Trips" at the bottom of the screen. Then tap "make a claim" on your selected trip and follow the flow.
