Not all expeditions or destinations are covered by our Overseas Explorer though, so if you're heading up to between 4,000–6,000m above sea level, you should consider adding our Adventure Activities Boost.
To be covered for trekking at heights between 4,000 and 6,000m above sea level on a trek that takes more than two days to complete but doesn’t require specialist climbing equipment, you need to our Adventure Activities Boost. Treks at heights of under 4,000m above sea level are automatically covered by our Explorer Plans.
Most Kokoda tours require you to have personal travel insurance prior to departure. We offer cover for this famously gnarly trek with our Adventure Activities Boost.
With our Adventure Activities Boost, we may reimburse you for medical bills incurred from treks at heights between 4,000-6,000m above sea level, provided they take don’t require specialist climbing equipment and if your claim is approved.

In Nepal, the Annapurna Circuit offers a stunning mix of lush valleys, quaint villages and Himalayan views, all without exceeding 6,000m altitude (the maximum altitude that we cover under our Adventure Boost).
For those drawn to Europe, Spain’s Camino de Santiago provides a historic pilgrimage route, blending beautiful landscapes with cultural experiences.
Closer to home, New Zealand’s Milford Track in Fiordland National Park is renowned for its dramatic scenery, from serene lakes to majestic waterfalls.
In South America, Peru’s Inca Trail leads you through cloud forests and ancient ruins to the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu.
For a more tropical setting, Indonesia’s Mount Rinjani Trek on Lombok offers a challenging but rewarding journey with stunning crater lakes and panoramic views.

The Australian Government’s Smartraveller website recommends travellers get travel insurance for adventure activities overseas: “even a minor injury can leave you with 1000s of dollars’ worth of medical bills” abroad.
When trekking overseas, travel insurance can provide a layer of financial protection against unexpected injuries, illnesses or accidents that can happen on the trail, especially in remote areas where medical help can be costly or hard to access.
Additionally, if you’re trekking in areas with limited infrastructure, travel insurance can cover things like medical evacuations and emergency transport to the nearest medical facility.
Travellers planning to trek under 4,000m above sea level can get cover with Freely’s Overseas Explorer Plan, while those trekking at heights of 4,000–6,000m above sea level will need to add our Adventure Activities Boost to their policy (at an additional cost) for all the days they’re trekking, if the trek takes more than two days to complete.
Freely provides cover for trekking as long as it isn’t being undertaken in a professional capacity, reasonable care is taken and specialist equipment and oxygen are not being used.

We may provide medical cover for trekking, but your eligibility for cover depends on the height you are above sea level.
Less than 4,000m above sea level: If you’re trekking at less than 4,000m above sea level, our Overseas Explorer Plan automatically includes cover for medical expenses as a benefit.
4,000–6,000m above sea level: If you’re trekking at 4,000–6,000m above sea level for more than two days, you would need to add our Adventure Activities Boost to your policy at an additional cost in order for all the days you’re trekking in order to be covered (as long as you're not trekking in a professional capacity or using oxygen or specialist equipment).

If you are seriously sick or injured and our emergency assistance network deems it necessary, we may arrange to fly you home to Australia for medical treatment.
We also have the option of evacuating you to another country. Every case will be individually assessed subject to medical advice.

You need to add our Adventure Activities Boost at an additional cost to the base policy for all the days you plan on trekking the Kokoda Track, in order to be covered. (Our Explorer Plan alone does not automatically cover the Kokoda Track.)

Yes, if two or more adults are travelling on the same Freely policy, a 15% discount will automatically be applied to the quote at checkout.
If three or more adults are travelling on the same Freely policy, a 20% discount will automatically be applied to the quote at checkout (up to eight adults per policy).
In order to be eligible for the discount, all travellers need to leave and return to Australia at the same time, plus the regions and countries visited need to be the same. You'll need both the names and dates of birth of everyone in your party when purchasing the policy.
